Union Project (UP) makes space to connect, create, and celebrate community.
Since 2001, we’ve repurposed our historic church building to provide an affordable, safe, and welcoming home to grassroots entrepreneurs, artists, non-profits, and people of all faiths. Positioned at the literal intersection of some of Pittsburgh’s most racially and economically diverse urban neighborhoods, Union Project is a community hub and literal and figurative common ground for surrounding neighbors. Guided by a servant leadership model, UP staff and board work together acting as intrapreneurs to connect and strengthen a network of community partners in order to nurture people's skills, spirits, and self-sufficiency. Simply said, the foundation of Union Project is dialogue and good old-fashioned conversation between people. So let us hear from you. Become part of our ongoing project. Visit us today or blogUP to learn more about what’s incubating here, share your ideas, or let us know how we are doing.
Union Project has empowered local residents and strengthened the stability of Pittsburgh's East End neighborhoods via the creation of hundreds of new jobs, micro-businesses and nonprofits, cultivated more than 35,000 volunteer hours to help renovate and improve our space, and gathers tens of thousands of diverse people to connect, create and celebrate. For more information about what we’ve accomplished over the years go to Multi-Media & Recognition.
Faith, Radical Hospitality, Serving Leadership, Creative Expression, and Inclusion.
These five values are complementary and permeate all aspects of UP’s organizational structure and programming.
The Core Values Statement is as follows:
”We believe in things not yet seen which creates the basis for taking appropriate risks on behalf of our greatest asset and resource—the community itself. We value the social and cultural diversity of our neighborhoods. Accordingly, we are dedicated to fostering constructive relationships among neighbors.
We believe that hands-on service cultivates investment and leadership. We value creativity in all individuals and are dedicated to infusing it into all aspects of our work, from the making of things, to tackling organizational and community problems with an entrepreneurial spirit. We affirm the value of inclusion, and understand that achieving this requires a proactive and intentional approach in all that we do.”
