Volunteer Guidelines

The following is a list of information and responsibilities to assist in making your volunteer experience a successful one. Please educate your group about the mission of the Union Project.

  • Your job is to prepare yourself or your group to serve in many capacities involved with construction. We will not set anyone up to fail. Projects will be challenging, and our staff will be leading and instructing you for the duration of your time with us.
  • You cannot over-communicate. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, clarify, or communicate when you don’t understand.
  • All projects are subject to change at any time due to weather conditions, the number of volunteers and their skill level.
  • Fill out a volunteer registration form for each individual participant. No one will be permitted to participate without a form. Forms are to be handed to the job-site manager upon arrival at the job-site.
  • Because of the nature of the work being done it is recommended that no-one under the age of 16 participate. Special circumstances may be arranged. Everyone under the age of 18 must have consent from a parent or guardian. The Union Project is housed in a 100 year old building. Lead paint, asbestos, pigeon droppings, and construction dust have been found in the building.
  • Dress for the weather! Projects are rarely cancelled and may occur outside.
  • Bring lunch. We will provide water and cups.
  • Wear protective shoes/boots. Absolutely No open toed shoes, sandals, flip-flops.
  • LONG pants are strongly recommended. You will be working on a construction site.
  • We can provide all of the necessary tools. You may bring any of your own tools. PLEASE mark them. Union Project tools are marked with orange paint. Gathering your tools at the end of the day is your responsibility.
  • Please be on time and communicate any changes to our Volunteer Coordinator. 412-478-3105
  • Transportation of your group is your responsibility. Limited On-Site parking is available.
  • Union Project is responsible for your safety and quality of work. This is an enormous responsibility. Please convey any and all concerns, traditions and agendas that you would like the volunteer coordinator to be aware of.
  • THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS!
