Ceramics Classes

Union Project's ceramics classes encourage the making of both hand-made objects and connections among people. Your class registration furthers UP's mission to use our space to bring people together to connect, create, and celebrate.

The online registration form is located within each class listing. After you submit the form, you will be to submit payment via Paypal. Your spot is not secured until payment is received. All materials and supplies are included in class price. Ceramic toolkits are available for $20.

Refund policy: Refunds may be issued if requested at least two weeks prior to class start date. There will be no refunds issued within two weeks of start date. A $20 administrative fee will be charged for all refunds.

Class make-up policy: Class participants are able to make up one missed class during an Open Studio session. The missed class must be made up before the last class of the session.

Tween/Teen Wheel 101Winter Workshop:
Saturday, March 25, 3-6 pm
Cost: $40/person

Always wanted to let your kids or teens try their hand at the potter's wheel? 

Join us for a creative afternoon playing on the potter's wheel. Designed for youth ages 10-16 years old, students will learn the basics of centering clay and throwing bowls and cylinders on the wheel. Lead by an experienced teaching artist, this fun and informative workshop is designed for those who are curious about clay or want to further their skills without the commitment of a class.

Clay, tools, and firing costs are included. Make sure your kids wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

Winter Workshop:

Always wanted to try your hand at the potter's wheel? Need a quick refresher on that ceramics class you took in high school?

Join us for a creative evening playing on the potter's wheel. Participants will learn the basics of centering clay and throwing bowls and cylinders on the wheel. Led by an experienced teaching artist, this fun and informative workshop is designed for those who are curious about clay or want to further their skills without the commitment of a class.

Clay, tools, and firing costs are included. Wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

Monday Evening Beginner/Intermediate CeramicsSpring Session:
10 Mondays, April 17 - June 26, 6-9 pm

Cost: $230

Whether you already have a little experience in clay, or are just starting out – this class will give you an introduction to the fundamentals of wheel-throwing and hand-building. If you’ve already learned the basics and want to improve your proficiency, this class will challenge you and help you expand your knowledge or refresh your skills. Your instructor will focus on teaching centering, maximizing volume, trimming, glazing, and studio safety.

Saturday Morning intermediate/advanced ceramicsSpring Session:
10 Saturdays, April 29 - July 1, 9am -12pm
Cost: $230

If you have experience throwing on the wheel and want to take it to the next level, this class will help you advance your skills, explore new forms, and deepen your ceramics experience. Work on more advanced shapes like teapots or larger pieces, and learn small steps to transform a mediocre pot into a beautiful piece. In addition to hands on learning, your instructor will work with you to really look at the pieces you make – going beyond the mechanics of throwing and discussing the aesthetics of what makes one pot better than another.

Spring Flowers workshopSpring Workshop:
Sunday, April 30, 1-3 pm
Cost: $25/person

Come celebrate springtime in Union Project's ceramic studio, and turn April showers into flowers that bloom all year long!  
 
Learn ceramic hand-building skills and use them to sculpt and decorate clay flower blossoms to "plant" in your garden, display in your home, or give to someone you love.  Afterwards, mix together terra cotta clay, compost, soil, and seeds to sculpt wildflower seed bombs you can plant at home and watch sprout in the coming weeks.
 
This is a family-friendly workshop suitable for all ages.

Spend Friday night with buddies, drinking wine, in the studio! Grab a buddy or a date for three hours of clay and wine.  Everyone will have a chance to play on the wheel, and our instructor will also teach you a variety of handbuilding techniques!  Clay, wine, and firing costs are included in the fee.

Spring a-cometh! It's time to celebrate those sprouts and blooms with handmade ceramic planters and garden markers. This workshop will teach basic hand-building techniques using terracotta clay, and each participant will get to make one planter and ten garden markers. Bring your neighbor, brother, friend, or granny, and get your hands dirty in the studio!
