Stained Glass

Union Project began its work with stained glass to solve a million dollar problem.

When the founders of Union Project first acquired the building in 2001, nearly all of the historic stained glass windows were broken or in need of repair. Initial repair estimates of over one million dollars meant that the organization would need to find an innovative solution. With input and support from others in the community, the solution came in the form of holding classes that would restore Union Project's windows while teaching community members how to restore their own. The first classes were taught in the fall and winter of 2004 in Union Project's as yet unheated Atrium. To date, over 100 local residents have taken part in Union Project's stained glass classes.

By early 2011, with the help of these classes and many volunteers, Union Project had completed all of the building's historic windows.
