Union Project Evolves

As part of UP's core values, Union Project has employed a service leadership model for the last decade. To date, we have supported dozens of young people from various backgrounds, mostly through the Keys service corps, PULSE (Pittsburgh Urban Leadership Service Experience), and Public Allies programs. Most come to UP for ten to eleven month programs and then move on to continue building their careers in other non-profits locally and nationally. This was the case of our most recent graduates mentioned in a recent UP post called "Farewell and Thank You" (7.28.11)
Utilizing programs like these has played a significant role in UP's ability to carry out our mission: to use our space to bring people together to connect, create and celebrate.  As well as saving our organization thousands of dollars, Union Project is constantly rejuvenated with new ideas, fresh energy, and plenty of extra sets of hands that help us make a lot of hard work a little bit lighter. Also as a result, from time to time, we find someone who is such a good fit to our organization that we hire them. Last year for example, we hired Jenna Vanden Brink when she finished her program with KEYS as UP's new Community Arts Program Coordinator.
This year, I am proud to announce that it has happened again. Please join me in welcoming Kelly Tobias as our newest staff member: UP Communications and Volunteer Coordinator. While this is a new position, Kelly worked with UP as a Public Ally in 2010-11 and completed her term of service at the end of June. We are fortunate to have her expertise and energy to help UP, specifically as we are in the midst of revising our strategic plan and business plan. Kelly will be focusing mainly on helping to employ new strategies as part of our communications and donor plans and continuing to manage our amazing volunteers.
Additionally, please also join me in congratulating Carol Spencer-Royall as her role has changed here at UP. While Carol is a six year employee at UP, first as UP's Bookkeeper then as UP Business Manager, her new role as Director of Quality Experience in Space Rental will allow her to interact directly with all space rental clients as well as oversee and direct all front of house staff/special event staff to ensure that our clients have the best experience possible while at Union Project.
I feel honored and humbled to get to serve with such a dedicated, hard-working and creative staff. To see UP's current staff including photos and bios, please visit website's staff page.
I know I speak for them when I say, we look forward to serving you.
