Raku Firing Workshop
Event Dates and Times:
November 11 (12:00 pm - 4:00 pm)
Age Level: 18 and up
Experience Level: Intermediate and up
Come and fire your pots with us in this one-time introduction to Raku firing. Raku is quick, fiery, and the results are unpredictable but amazing. Each student may bring up to three pieces to fire, they’ll be ready to go home with you the same day.
Your registration includes 12 lbs of Raku clay and bisque firing for your Raku pieces. You can pick up your clay and create at home – or register for one of our Open Studio sessions and create in our studio. All pieces must be less than 6” tall and may not weigh more than 3 pounds. Flat tiles and plates will not fired since they are more likely to crack.
All pieces must be bisque fired before the workshop. Drop off your greenware no later than Tuesday, the week of the workshop. Your pieces must be completely dry to be bisque fired in time for the workshop. During our workshop, we’ll glaze the bisque pots and fire on-site. Raku fired work is NOT FOOD SAFE.
To be an active participant in the firing, you MUST wear long pants, long sleeves, and close-toed shoes. Other safety equipment will be provided. If you do not wish to handle the ware in the kiln, you may just observe.
This workshop will take place outdoors in our Kiln Shelter.
Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Each registration includes clay, tools, glaze, and firing costs for one participant. No outside clay or glazes permitted.
If a class or workshop is sold out, you may request to be added to the waitlist by emailing [email protected]. Please be sure to include the class name and date(s) in your email.
