Creative Conversation Series

This event is free, please reserve your free seats.

Union Project is partnering with Opera Theater of Pittsburgh to present an Opera Workshop of "A Gathering of Sons" as a part of The Union Project's "Creative Conversations" series this December.

A GATHERING OF SONS is a confrontation with history. It takes us on a journey through the lives of a young Black man, a white police officer, a pair of Black parents, and a collection of spirits who watch over the world. Creative Conversation serves the purpose of fostering a safe space to have ongoing dialogues on justice and inequity in our communities, using art as a means to stimulate discourse. Opera Theater of Pittsburgh will be performing segments of the opera, followed by a talkback with the performers, members of the creative team, and selected panelists. The discussions during the Talkback will help further craft the opera, A Gathering of Sons.

We have seen a need in our immediate community to have a safe space to hold an ongoing dialogue throughout the year. Rooted in our annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration, the Creative Conversation will be facilitated by community leaders guiding participants in important conversations around agape love, finding and defining community, and inclusion. Through the series, we hope to grow people’s capacity to address issues of inequity in our community.

Union Project is committed to being accessible to all. Union Project is wheelchair accessible via our Stanton Avenue door. Please let us know what accommodations we can make to ensure your experience is positive, contact Michelle Clesse at 412-363-4550 or if you have specific accommodations or needs.
